Biography

Holly J. Fujie is the former President of the State Bar of California and a Shareholder in the firm’s Insurance Industry and Litigation Practice Groups in Los Angeles. Her practice focuses on complex litigation with an emphasis on insurance and surety industry related litigation. She represents large insurance brokerages in litigation and handles major insurance coverage issues for clients in all areas. She has also tried several general business cases that resulted in multi-million dollar judgments in favor of her clients.

Ms. Fujie served as the 84th President of the State Bar of California from September 2008-September 2009. Prior to being elected President of the State Bar, Ms. Fujie served a three-year tenure on the State Bar Board of Governors, including one year as its Vice President. She is currently the 2010-2011 President of the Boalt Hall Alumni Association, the 2010-2011 Vice President of the Chancery Club, and Chair-Elect of Bet Tzedek (the House of Justice) Legal Services. She also serves on the Board of Governors of the Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles, the Boards of Directors of VIP Mentors, the Federal Bar Association (Los Angeles Chapter) and the California Bar Foundation and sits on the Advisory Board of the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Los Angeles.

  • She is a frequent speaker and writer on issues of litigation, insurance coverage and diversity in the legal profession with community organizations, various academic institutions and the local and state Bars. Active throughout her career in organizations devoted to diversity issues and the law, she is a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association Committee on Diversity in the Profession and the joint LACBA/WLALA Task Force on the Retention and Advancement of Women in the Profession, and previously served on the Editorial Board of Title IX, a publication of the ABA Committee on Diversity in the Profession. She has published chapters in CEB publications including, “California Trial Practice: Civil Procedure During Trial,” “Jefferson’s California Evidence Benchbook,” and “Effective Introduction of Evidence in California.”

  • Ms. Fujie served as Deputy General Counsel to the Los Angeles Police Commission’s Rampart Independent Review Panel, as a Judge Pro Tem to the Los Angeles Superior Court and has spoken on a number of panels on law and judicial related topics. Since 1991, she has advised Senator Dianne Feinstein on federal judicial and U.S. Attorney nominations for the Central District of California and the Ninth Circuit. She also served as an Attorney Representative to the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference.

    Ms. Fujie earned her J.D. in 1978 from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall), where she served as Articles Editor of the California Law Review. She received her A.B. degree from the University of California at Berkeley in 1975 with a double major in Political Science (Highest Honors) and Economics (Honors), and great distinction in general scholarship.
