James M. Mainzer is a Shareholder in the Firm’s Chicago office and a member of the Tax, Benefits & Estate Planning and Corporate Practice Groups. Mr. Mainzer has over 40 years of experience practicing in the areas of taxation, business representation, real estate, and trusts and estates. He represents private sector clients in tax collection defense, audit, income tax and estate tax matters. Mr. Mainzer also has substantial experience dealing with IRS agents, revenue officers and IRS tax counsel regarding audits, tax appeals, and Federal Tax Court matters.

On his clients’ behalf, Mr. Mainzer has had the opportunity to structure business and real estate transactions, mergers and acquisitions, partnerships and liquidations as tax-advantaged transactions, while focusing on wealth preservation and growth, and large estate plans over $50M. He also serves as a trusted advisor and general counsel for closely held businesses and private investors. Mr. Mainzer is a Certified Public Accountant.

Mr. Mainzer earned his J.D. from Chicago Kent College of Law. He received a Bachelor’s in Accounting at the University of Illinois at Champaign Urbana.
