“Mary-Christine ‘M.C.’ Sungaila, an Irvine-based partner with Buchalter APC, said her appellate practice is unaffected thus far aside from handling arguments on Zoom.

‘At a certain point, it’s just going to stop,’ she said, warning that the number of appellate cases will dry up within the next year unless trials resume soon.

She said she expects a host of challenges in appeals courts to the new procedures that some trial courts have adopted during the pandemic.”
