Webinar: Not So Independent After All: Time to Reevaluate Your Independent Contractor Arrangements

  • June 7th, 2018

  • 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM

If you utilize independent contractors in your business, you must take note of the California Supreme Court’s adoption of a new test, which makes it extremely difficult for employers to show that workers qualify as independent contractors. In this webinar, we will review the new ABC test laid out in Dynamex v. Superior Court of Los Angeles, which presumes workers are employees instead of independent contractors for purposes of the California Wage Orders that govern items such as overtime and meal and rest breaks, and which places the burden on employers to prove workers aren’t really employees. We will also evaluate common scenarios where independent contractors are used in various industries, discuss the implications of the continued use of such arrangements, and identify potential alternative scenarios.
