Drew Meyer is a Special Counsel in Buchalter’s Seattle office and a member of the Firm’s Litigation, White Collar & Investigations, Labor & Employment, and Health Care groups. Drew is a seasoned civil litigator who represents companies and individuals in business disputes, fraud and asset recovery matters, and employment-related litigation, and draws on a background in internal investigations and white collar defense to build the factual record that drives case strategy. He has particular depth in health care and life sciences, where he spent several years as in-house counsel.
Drew handles civil matters from the initial pleadings through discovery, motion practice, and court appearances. His commercial practice covers contract, technology, and construction disputes for companies and individuals. He also handles fraud and asset recovery matters, including civil RICO and fraud claims, recovery of misdirected funds, and multijurisdictional asset tracing, and has experience with malicious prosecution and abuse of process actions. Drew leads complex e-discovery efforts, using AI-based analytics tools to manage and analyze large data sets.
In employment matters, Drew works alongside employment counsel to defend employers against claims of discrimination, harassment, and hostile work environment. He has investigated these claims from inside a company, and that experience shapes his approach to fact development, witness interviews, and the choice between litigating and resolving a dispute.
Drew also maintains a white collar and government investigations practice. He represents individuals and companies facing investigation or prosecution for bank fraud, wire fraud, securities fraud, and anti-money laundering violations, and serves as government-facing counsel in inquiries and enforcement actions brought by the Department of Justice, the FDIC, and state authorities.
Before joining Buchalter, Drew spent several years as an attorney within the legal and litigation functions of two global pharmaceutical companies, Takeda Pharmaceuticals and UCB Pharmaceuticals. He directed internal investigations into potential violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, the False Claims Act, and the Anti-Kickback Statute. He also investigated employee complaints alleging race and gender discrimination, harassment, and hostile work environment, as well as workplace disputes arising from COVID-19 vaccination requirements. Working with employment counsel, he assessed each matter’s litigation exposure and helped determine the right resolution, whether litigation, settlement, or working the issue out directly with the employee. He worked directly with legal leadership on escalation decisions, self-reporting determinations, and remediation planning, and conducted investigative interviews with witnesses, complainants, and whistleblowers.
Earlier in his career, Drew spent five years in Shanghai, China, leading investigation and crisis management engagements for multinational companies, including a multi-year embedded engagement with a global pharmaceutical company and service on another company’s crisis management team following a government enforcement action involving anti-corruption and antitrust allegations. He began his career with the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Counterintelligence Division as an Intelligence Analyst, delivering analysis to federal prosecutors, FBI leadership, and other law enforcement and intelligence agencies.
