Jason Croft is the Global Chair of Patent Procurement and Strategy and a Partner in Buchalter’s Salt Lake City office.
Mr. Croft is at the forefront in driving a large-scale industry shift to a more business-minded approach to IP. He is frequently called upon to help companies forge new paths to profitability and to transform legal departments from “cost-centers” to “profit-centers”. As part of this approach, he actively manages patent-related matters for some of the world’s most innovative public and private companies. He is equally adept at patent procurement and IP portfolio strategy, as he is at managing IP transactions, conducting IP due diligence, and leading post-grant proceedings.
Mr. Croft’s technical expertise spans a broad array of cutting-edge disciplines, including artificial intelligence/machine learning and agentic implementations, telecommunications, virtual and augmented reality, 5G and IEEE wireless standards, autonomous vehicles, robotics, computer architecture, software, cryptography, biometrics, cryptocurrencies, integrated circuits, decarbonization, nuclear, and semiconductors.
His business-centric approach comes from more than two decades of experience in technology, including at leading law firms, a Silicon Valley startup, a leading patent brokerage and M&A advisory firm, and as a robotics engineer at a major medical device corporation.
Mr. Croft has been recognized as a top-rated intellectual property attorney by various peer-reviewed publications, including Intellectual Asset Management, which recognized him in the IAM Strategy 300: The World’s Leading IP Strategists 2025, IAM Strategy 300 Global Leaders 2026, and on the Patent 1000 list in 2023-2026. He also had the distinct honor of working for the Honorable James Ware, the former Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court in the Northern District of California. Mr. Croft has been recognized as a 2026 Best Lawyer in America in the area of Patent Law.
