Berit Elam is a Senior Counsel in Buchalter’s Sacramento office and a member of the Firm’s Litigation, Real Estate, Health Care, and Trade Secrets Practice Groups. She represents businesses and individuals in complex litigation matters across a broad range of industries, including construction, agribusiness, hospitality, food and beverage, health care, and medtech.
Berit’s litigation practice encompasses a wide variety of commercial and business disputes, including breach of contract, fraud, unfair competition, and business tort claims.
She has significant experience in construction litigation, representing general contractors, subcontractors, owners, and developers in disputes arising from public and private projects, including civil, transportation, and commercial construction matters.
Berit also has extensive experience representing clients across the agricultural sector in complex litigation and business-related matters.
In her health care litigation practice, Berit represents health systems, physician groups, and other health care providers in large-scale reimbursement litigation and arbitration proceedings, recovering millions of dollars on behalf of provider clients.
Berit’s trade secrets practice includes representing individuals and businesses in matters involving alleged misappropriation of trade secrets, employee mobility disputes, unfair competition claims, employee non-solicitation covenants, and nondisclosure agreements.
Her practice also includes political law, where she advises and represents clients on campaign finance, lobbying compliance, reporting obligations, regulatory matters, and election law issues.
In addition to her civil litigation practice, Berit has considerable white collar defense experience, representing individuals in government investigations and criminal matters involving allegations of mail and wire fraud, perjury, bribery, and environmental violations.
