Yvonne Ricardo is an Attorney in the firm’s San Diego Office and a member of the Labor & Employment Practice Group. Ms. Ricardo represents employers in litigation, including but not limited to, claims involving harassment, discrimination, retaliation, negligent hiring, negligent supervision, and wage and hour violations. She has experience representing employers in class actions and representative PAGA cases involving wage-and-hour allegations, including failure to pay wages and provide meal and rest breaks. Ms. Ricardo has experience appearing in federal court, state court, and administrative agencies including the California Civil Rights Department and the California Labor Commissioner.

Ms. Ricardo provides advice and counseling to clients on questions regarding labor and employment compliance, including on issues related to employment policies, hiring, employee discipline, leaves of absences, crisis management, reductions in force, and terminations. Ms. Ricardo further assists clients in drafting employment related documents, such as employee handbooks, personnel policies, and employment-related agreements.

Ms. Ricardo is also a thorough and skillful workplace investigator. She has experience acting as an objective party investigating sensitive workplace complaints, including claims of sexual harassment and hostile work environment. She promptly completes interviews, gathers evidence, and prepares detailed reports and recommendations. She is committed to protecting the privacy of all participants, fostering an ethical environment, and is sensitive to diverse cultures and power dynamics across different organizational levels.

  • Assisted in obtaining summary judgment on behalf of a private school and church facing allegations of misconduct by a former teacher.
  • Successfully obtained an order granting sanctions against opposing counsel for filing a frivolous lawsuit
  • Negotiated and resolved several employment matters involving claims of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, wage and hour issues.
  • Provided advice and counsel to clients on hiring, employee discipline, leave of absences, terminations, employment policies, and employment agreements.
  • Conducted workplace investigations related involving allegations of sexual harassment and hostile work environment.
