Vanessa LeFort focuses her practice on complex commercial litigation and has successfully represented a broad range of clients in high stakes matters in both state and federal court. Leveraging her science background, she has represented clients in disputes involving alleged breaches of cybersecurity, intellectual property rights, and HIPAA compliance law. Vanessa has also represented health care providers and their affiliates in conjunction with business practices and control disputes.

Representative matters include:

• Successfully defended a life sciences company in a closely-watched case involving human DNA sequences and genetic testing for hereditary cancer.
• Co-tried jury trial and obtained a complete defense verdict in a patent infringement case involving various aspects of mobile phone technology.
• Successfully defended private individual charged with computer hacking in violation of the California Penal Code and with invasion of privacy. In case of first impression, also successfully obtained a prevailing party ruling and an award for the recovery of attorneys’ fees for the successful defense of the computer hacking claim.

While in law school, Ms. LeFort served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Dale S. Fischer of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.
