Intellectual Property Demystified: Patents and Trademarks 101

  • Oct 25th, 2017 - Oct 25th, 2017

  • 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

What is a patent, really? Why do they take so long to get, and why are they so expensive? When is it more appropriate to file for trademark protection? What is required to file for protection of trademarks and patents and what deadlines apply? This seminar will provide answers and tips on how to better protect your ideas and help you reduce, at least somewhat, your costs on protecting some of your company’s most valuable assets. This is an interactive discussion, so please be ready to ask questions regarding patent and other intellectual property protections that are of interest to you.

Our speakers, Anthony Orler, holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, and has been practicing Patent Law for over two decades. He has drafted over 1500 patent applications and been involved in every aspect of foreign and domestic patent prosecution during his career. Mr. Orler is a member of Buchalter’s Intellectual Property Group.

Farah Bhatti focuses her practice on all aspects of trademark protection and prosecution. She formerly served as a trademark examining attorney at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). While there, she examined more than 2,000 trademark applications. She has extensive experience in the enforcement of Internet and domain names, and trademark litigation under the Anti-cybersquatting Consumer Protection Act (ACPA).  Ms. Bhatti is the chair of Buchalter’s Internet, E-Commerce, and Social Media Practice Group.
