Richard Ormond has over 23 years of experience that includes finance, special servicing, loan syndication and participation, real estate, lending and banking, receivership, cannabis regulations, commercial litigation, and restructuring. He has tried numerous cases in State Court, Federal Court and Bankruptcy Court and has arbitrated dozens of matters. Mr. Ormond is one of the nation’s leading experts concerning banking and finance; loan servicing; receivership law; and cannabis regulations.

Mr. Ormond is the former President of the California Receivers Forum, and he is the former Chair of the Remedies Division of the Los Angeles County Bar Association. Mr. Ormond also teaches Cannabis Business and Finance Law at Loyola Law School and Continuing Legal Education courses on dispute resolution, debt enforcement, secured transactions, cannabis law and receiverships.

Mr. Ormond was previously nominated for the prestigious “Leader in Law” award by the Los Angeles Business Journal, and he was previously selected as one of its “Los Angeles’ Top 100 Lawyers.” He is repeatedly recognized as a “Super Lawyer,” and he was selected as one of the “Top Cannabis Law Experts in the United States” by Databird Research Journal.

Mr. Ormond was featured in the Netflix documentary series “The Business of Drugs” wherein Mr. Ormond shared his legal perspective on the issues facing the California cannabis markets and banks.

Mr. Ormond is the founder and co-chair of the firm’s Fiduciaries and Receivers Industries Group, he is the founder and former chair of the firm’s Cannabis & Hemp Industries Group, he is the founder and former chair of the firm’s Diversity Committee, is the former chair of the firm’s Pro-Bono Committee, is a former member of the firm’s board of directors and is the former hiring chair for the firm.

Mr. Ormond is currently the founder and chairman of Brief www.thinkbrief.com, an online arbitration platform and is the principal of Stone Blossom Capital, an investment and advisory firm.

Mr. Ormond earned his J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law. He also earned a Certification in International Business Law from the University of Buenos Aires/University of Belgrano in Argentina and his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Los Angeles.
