Brian Mathay is an Attorney in the Firm’s Denver office and a member of the Litigation practice group. Brian’s practice focuses on representing organizations in internal and external investigations, state consumer protection actions and commercial litigation.
Brian worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation as a Special Agent prior to joining Buchalter. Brian’s experience in the FBI was focused on leading complex national security investigations, as well as investigations into violent gangs and cartels as part of the Safe Streets Task Force. Brian was also on the Crisis Negotiation Team and he was a Legal Advisor for his division. Brian’s experience with Bureau, both in national security and the Safe Streets Task Force, gives him a practical, experienced view of investigations. From his varied, fast-paced experiences in the FBI, Brian approaches complex, high-stress situations with a sense of calm and provides his clients with confidence and tactical analysis of the circumstances they face.
Prior to joining the FBI, Brian worked in business development in the energy sector. Brian worked upstream and midstream production in the most productive oil and gas plays in the country in Texas, Colorado, Oklahoma and North Dakota. Brian leverages this experience in addressing a large variety of oil and gas business issues, such as contract litigation, title disputes, AG investigations and large scale midstream asset transactions.
