Rebecca Lang is a Senior Counsel in the Firm’s San Diego office and a member of the Litigation and Real Estate practice groups. Ms. Lang specializes in residential landlord/tenant matters, including compliance with local and state regulations, residential and commercial unlawful detainers, lease disputes, fair housing complaints and investigations. Ms. Lang also has experience in affordable housing, rent control, just cause restrictions, and Ellis Act evictions. Ms. Lang’s practice focuses primarily on landlord representation in Southern California.

Recent successes:

  • Obtained full value settlement in breach of commercial lease dispute.
  • Obtained closure of Civil Rights Department Investigation with a finding of no cause.
  • Obtained a complete jury verdict in favor of property owner against a long-standing occupant of a single-family home who has also been deemed a vexatious litigant.
  • Obtained judgments for possession for owners of property against tenants found to have violated their leases.

Ms. Lang’s representative matters include:

  • Litigated all aspects of breach of commercial lease action through resolution.
  • Litigated all aspects of unlawful detainer matters, including nonpayment, no fault just cause terminations, just cause and at will tenancy terminations through decision and/or resolution.
  • Negotiated surrender agreements and buy-out agreements between housing providers and tenants.
  • Litigated all aspects of work place violence restraining orders through resolution.
  • Represented clients in response to California’s Civil Rights Department investigative inquiries, including allegations of discrimination and retaliation, through closure.
  • Advised multifamily operators and individual housing providers on state and local compliance, changes in laws, including credit reporting, security deposits and residential tenant protections.
  • Drafted residential and commercial lease amendments and addenda.
