Buchalter Sacramento Office Signs Lease in Downtown Sacramento High-Rise

Law firm takes 12,000 square feet at 500 Capitol Mall

September 27, 2017

By Ben van der Meer

A law firm establishing a new office in Sacramento has signed a lease for most of an entire floor at 500 Capital Mall.

Buchalter, which has 13 attorneys and five support staff employees, will be moving into almost 12,000 square feet on the 19th floor of the downtown Sacramento high-rise by early 2018, said Jim Dyer, the local office’s managing shareholder. Buchalter is a business law firm with offices on the West Coast.

“We couldn’t be more excited,” said Dyer, whose firm is in a temporary space in the same building at the moment. “This is a beautiful building with an outstanding landlord, and we’re happy to be in the heart of downtown.”

As with other firms finding new addresses lately, Dyer said 500 Capitol Mall’s proximity to Golden 1 Center and the redeveloping area around it was a major factor in the firm's choice. As empty nesters themselves, he and his wife recently found a place to live downtown for similar reasons.

By year’s end, Dyer said, he expects to add another attorney to the staff at Buchalter. The firm is based in Los Angeles, where it was founded in 1933.

As Buchalter grows, he’s confident building owner Angelo G. Tsakopoulos of 500 Capitol Mall Tower LLC will help it find more space as necessary. But the 19th floor isn’t a bad place to be, he said, with beautiful views of the Sacramento River one direction and the state Capitol building in the other.

Dyer would not share the length of the lease Buchalter signed. Scott Bennett of Colliers International Sacramento represented Buchalter in the lease, while Greg Levi of JLL Sacramento represented the landlord.
