Buchalter Adds IP Litigation Partner Dr. Suparna Datta in California

Buchalter is pleased to announce that Suparna Datta, PhD, has joined the firm as a Partner in its Intellectual Property practice group, based in the firm’s Los Angeles and San Francisco offices. Dr. Datta is a patent litigator and registered patent attorney with extensive experience representing clients in complex, high‑tech disputes before the International Trade Commission, federal district courts, and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Dr. Datta has successfully litigated patent matters involving complex technologies, including semiconductors, wireless communications, medical devices, payment processing, consumer electronics, digital signal processing, graphics processors, video codecs, video streaming, telecommunications, distributed computing, and standard‑essential patents. She leads litigation teams and takes a hands‑on role at every stage of a dispute, from early case assessment and strategy through trial and appeal, leveraging her doctorate and industry experience in electrical and computer engineering to address technically demanding issues.

In addition to her litigation practice, Dr. Datta advises clients on intellectual property issues in complex mergers and acquisitions, including leading open‑source software audits, advising on representations and warranties insurance claims, and conducting IP asset valuation and risk analyses. She also negotiates patent and software license agreements, SaaS agreements, and royalty agreements, and counsels clients on patent portfolio development and monetization strategies.

Dr. Datta joins Buchalter from Mintz in Boston.  She earned her JD from Suffolk University, her PhD and MS in electrical and computer engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and her BS and BA in electrical engineering and mathematics from Cornell University.
