Lifting The Ban Could Make US More Reliant On Foreign Oil

“In response to the 1973 Arab oil embargo, Congress passed the Energy Policy and Conservation Act of 1975 (EPCA) (Pub.L. 94-163, 89 Stat. 871, enacted Dec. 22, 1975), with the details in the Export Administration Regulations of the Bureau of Industry and Security, a Department of Commerce agency, which banned (with limited exceptions) the export of unrefined domestic crude oil.”
