Oren Bitan and Robert Cooper, Speakers at Lorman Educational Services

  • September 11th, 2018

  • 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM

Employers face a whole new set of challenges with the advent of legal recreational marijuana in California.

California’s cannabis industry is quickly developing into the state’s largest industry. But the rapidly changing state of California law and the tension between federal and state law make it difficult for employers to maintain compliance with all regulations. Making matters more complicated is the FDA’s recent approval of the first CBD drug for epilepsy, which firmly establishes cannabis as having recognized medical value notwithstanding its current status as a Schedule 1 drug under the Controlled Substances Act. This information helps employers navigate these uncertain waters and understand how to properly handle employee and labor issues impacting the industry. Failing to have a proper set for policies in place regarding the cannabis industry can have severe legal and monetary consequences.

Learning Objectives

  • You will be able to explain the current state of the law.
  • You will be able to describe employee use and drug testing policies.
  • You will be able to identify policy frameworks for employers.
  • You will be able to discuss labor peace agreements.
