H. James Abe is a Shareholder in the Firm’s Los Angeles office and a member of the Intellectual Property practice group. Mr. Abe counsels companies on a wide range of legal areas with an emphasis on intellectual property matters, commercial disputes, licensing, and corporate transactions.
Mr. Abe is fluent in Japanese and counsels many Japanese companies on their U.S. legal needs. He also regularly represents Japanese companies in litigation. He also serves as outside general counsel to U.S. subsidiaries of Japanese companies where he advises on contract matters, regulatory compliance, and labor and employment matters.
Mr. Abe earned his J.D., cum laude, from the University of San Diego School of Law, where he served as a member of the San Diego Law Review and received the CALI award in Patent Law. He earned his B.S. in chemistry from the University of California, Irvine. Before law school, Mr. Abe worked at Terumo Cardiovascular Systems Corp. for seven years, where he worked on various patient monitoring systems.
