Jonathon Talcott is a Shareholder in the Firm’s Scottsdale office and a member of the Intellectual Property practice group. Mr. Talcott is an experienced intellectual property counselor, litigator, and trial attorney. He specializes in high stakes litigation in all areas of intellectual property (IP), representing clients throughout the country in patent, trademark, trade secrets, copyright, Internet domain name, and other technology-related commercial disputes. He also regularly assists clients in building and maintaining their IP portfolios, and advises on IP and technology issues arising in various commercial transactions, such as licensing and M&A deals.
Mr. Talcott has a firm grasp on technology from his education in physics and electrical engineering, and from his years of practice as a professional engineer at a large aerospace and defense company where he designed displays and controls for cockpit electronics. His experience spans a broad range of technologies and industries, such as software and hardware for computers, consumer electronics, the Internet, financial institutions, cannabis, medical systems, sports equipment, and generative artificial intelligence (AI).
Mr. Talcott’s trademark practice includes advising on branding issues, securing and maintaining trademarks through the USPTO, and litigating trademark rights in federal courts and the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. He has extensive experience in the advisement and litigation of trade secrets and copyright issues, particularly involving software. As a registered patent attorney, he enforces clients’ patent rights and defends clients against patent infringement claims, including from patent “trolls.” He also regularly advises clients on obtaining patents and maintaining patent portfolios.
