Jenni Krengel is the Chair of Buchalter’s Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation Group. She has decades of experience advising clients on design, compliance, and operation of qualified retirement plans, deferred compensation plans and health and welfare plans. Ms. Krengel provides strategic support on all aspects of executive compensation and benefit matters in connection with M&A and other business transactions, including negotiating transaction documents, performing 409A and 280G analyses, conducting due diligence, and advising on mitigation and benefit plan integration issues. She also has extensive experience with IRS and DOL voluntary compliance programs, and ERISA fiduciary rules and best practices.
In addition, Ms. Krengel has particular expertise representing public employee retirement systems and government employers on tax and fiduciary matters, and is widely regarded for her work as tax and fiduciary counsel to public pension plans across the country. She previously served as assistant chief counsel and acting deputy general counsel for CalPERS, where her primary responsibilities included advising the pension system on tax and fiduciary issues, pension and health benefits administration, and policy development. She is an active member of the National Association of Public Pension Attorneys and the American Bar Association.
